Lyocell Excel Yarn – Birla

Lyocell Excel yarn is a premium branded variant of lyocell (also called Tencel) yarn produced by Birla Cellulose, featuring advanced fiber engineering for enhanced durability, reduced fibrillation, and superior performance in demanding textile applications.

It uses the same eco-friendly lyocell process—dissolving wood pulp in non-toxic NMMO solvent and extruding into strong, rounder filaments—but optimizes coagulation for smoother surfaces and higher wet/dry tenacity

Description

Material Composition

  • 100 % wood pulp primarily eucalyptus

Spinning Method : Compact , Siro Compact , Vortex

  • Compact yarn shows low hairiness, high tenacity, and evenness with good elongation.
  • Siro compact offers balanced structure, reduced hairiness, but slightly lower load-elongation than plied.
  • Vortex has minimal hairiness and imperfections but lower strength, more irregularity, and larger diameter.
Property Compact Siro Compact Vortex
Hairiness Very low Low Lowest
Strength High High Lower
Evenness Excellent Good Fair
Elongation High Moderate Low

 Fabric Applications

  • Compact suits premium knits and wovens needing durability.
  • Siro compact excels in shirting and denim for bulk and abrasion resistance.
  • Vortex fits towels and casual wear prioritizing speed and low pilling, though less for high-strength needs

Where I can use this yarn?

  • Ideal for shirting, denim, activewear, and recycled cotton blends, offering lustre, drape, and wash-wear resilience in fashion apparel.
  • It enhances productivity in open-end spinning for towels and sportswear.

Key Properties

  • Excel yarn delivers exceptional dimensional stability, vibrant dye uptake, and pilling resistance, making it softer yet stronger than standard lyocell while retaining breathability and 11-13% moisture regain.
  • Its uniform length and whiteness boost yarn quality in blends, outperforming viscose or modal in strength retention.
  • Key Differences between Lyocell Tencel and Lyocell Excel
Property Tencel (Standard) Excel Yarn
Fibrillation High (peach-touch) Low (smooth surface)
Wet Strength Moderate 20-30% higher
Pilling Resistance Fair Excellent
Dye Affinity Good Enhanced uniformity
